Crowd Marketing Works for Restaurants and Bars
Saturday, January 14, 2012 | 1:16 amWhen you want to reach more potential customers for your bar or restaurant, it is a good idea to go to where the people are. Crowd marketing is a good way to do just that. Stop for a moment and think about all of the places that crowds gather in your hometown. It shouldn’t take too long to come up with quite a few places. Think about the high school games and professional sporting events, as well as concerts, conventions, rallies, parades, and even the park and the beach. Wherever there are a large number of people gathered, you want to be there.
How does this crowd marketing work?
You have a few ways of reaching all of those people. First, you can ask to become a sponsor for the event. Contact the people who are in charge of the event and ask what you can do to be a sponsor or co-sponsor, whether it is as simple as providing some money or if it would require providing food or drinks. This can be a costly undertaking, and if you are on a tight budget, there are some other ways of getting close to the crowds.
One thing that you can cheaply to do is print some flyers with your bar or restaurant’s information on it. Make sure that the flyer contains the address, the type of establishment it is, a phone number, and your website. Add some of your specials to the flyer as well, and even a coupon or two couldn’t hurt. Once you have your flyers ready, have some of your employees head out to the event to pass out the flyers. They will be able to closely interact with the people at the event – your potential customers, and they can talk to interested people and crate a good impression about your bar or restaurant, something that a young teenager just hired to give the flyers away might not be able or care to do.
Compared to the price of sponsoring an event, setting out flyers is probably a more cost effective way to reach large crowds of people even though it can be hard to gauge the success of the promotion right away. You might have to wait several days or a week before you start seeing more customers heading into your establishment.
Another option is to somehow combine the two and have small, bite size, entrees that your employees can give out together with the flyers. You don’t have to have thousands of entrees just a few dozen that you can hand out randomly to people and create a small buzz among the passers-by.
As long as you have a great place, with good service, comfortable restaurant seating and great food or drinks, you can expect some repeat business from the customers in the future. Of course, if it is a convention that you are targeting, the upswing is only going to be temporary but it will be worthwhile.
