DEBUT SOLO ALBUM
Helium Balloon Illusions is my first solo outing after performing professionally for the best part of a decade (Zenzile being the main band with whom I have toured and recorded). With the help of the Zenzile clan, nuclear and extended, this work was a labor of love from the beginning to end. The music reflects the fusion of my artistic practice as it refuses to sit well in any niche yet known, and the lyrics… well I wrote this stuff over the 2 years I spent working on the album, and has everything to do with a personal journey as well as political concerns. Numbers like Crash with its heavy bass line and crunchy lyrics expose the possibility of a world imploding. While the moody Travel Bag Blues (more like electro blues for real) takes you with me during those lonely days on the road. Shanti- Lift, has a dubby feel with hip hop spine, and the Be/at is my homage to the Last Poets. I could go on and on, but would prefer for you to have a listen (again and again) and tell me, what’s your vibe?

MY WEBSITE IS UP!
Welcome to jamika.net
It's finally here! After years of having bits and pieces of websites floating
around in cyberspace, I have finally been able to gather up some samples
of my work onto one site. Here you can see a bit about not just my music,
but my work as a writer, filmmaker and visual artist. It isn't everything
but it's a start and hopefully in time, we will be able to add to it.
It is also the place to keep up to date on the launch of my debut solo
album, Helium Balloon Illusions. Check back regularly to read and post
to my blog or sign up to my newsletter for infomation on gigs in the coming
months.
